| 内容記述 | A Memorandum on the former Ota House: A village headman's Gassho-style house in Omaki village, Shirakawa-go. The Ota family was the headman in Omaki village located in the middle of Shirakawa-go. According to the building record, the former Ota House was a Gassho-style house and was constructed in 1842. Because of the dam construction, the former Ota House was torn down and reconstructed in the Higashiyama botanical garden, Nagoya city. Today the building is open to the public as a museum. The purpose of this study is to clarify the history of the former Ota House through the survey of the extant main building and ancient documents. From the investigation of ancient documents, the status and the role of the Ota family and the construction process in Edo period were clarified. From our building survey, it is proved that the main building had a yobai room which was a bedroom where a wife met her husband living in a separate residence. It is considered as a trace of Dai-kazoku system, which means large family. Through the investigation of the building plan, it is clarified that the Shoin room next to the room with a Buddhist altar was used as a waiting room for Buddhist priests. The room was planned adjunctively to the measurements of the main room with a Buddhist altar. | |||||
