| 内容記述 | This artwork is a wood sculpture made of mountain alder. This wood was growing on the university campus. The starting point for this artwork was the custom of whale memorial services. The encounter with this wood and the coincidence of knowing about the whale memorial service at the same time triggered the creation of this artwork. I began to think about wood and sculpture from the Japanese whaling culture. As I continued to think about the artwork, it seemed to me that the whalers kept a certain “distance” from whales while they were fishing. This distance might be maintained in the creation of wood sculptures. |
