| 内容記述 | Previous studies have shown that brain activity is greater during free speech compared to reading or counting tasks. This is interpreted that brain activity increases with the complexity of the speechproduction task. However, while reading and counting tasks are steady, free speech varies in timing, which might affect brain activity. In this study, we examined the effect of speech intervals on the brain activity measured by functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy. In the experiment, meaningless characters were presented at either fixed or random intervals, and participants were tasked with verbalizing the presented characters. Results indicated that the left inferior frontal gyrus was activated under both conditions. However, no significant effects of speech interval on brain activity were found. This suggests that the increased brain activity under free speech condition is not due to differences in speech timing between conditions, but rather due to the inherent complexity of free speech task. |
